Creating positive alternatives for youth is at the heart of this work. 

As we organize to kick the military out of our communities and to educate ourselves and other youth about the realities of life in the service, we must also provide non-military opportunities for jobs, education, leadership development, travel, and connecting with mentors.

Around the country, groups are coming up with hundreds of creative ideas.  People are forming youth clubs, starting college funds and scholarships for local youth, getting involved with americorps, green corps or peace corps, and outward bound.  Youth are finding ways to travel and do volunteer work in the US and other countries. 

Opportunities for positive alternatives are different in each area.  Its a good idea to find or compile a list that is specific to your community.  Check out our Youth Forum section to find lists that other groups have posted.
